Week of January 28th- Catholic Schools Week



Hello & Happy Friday!

It was so wonderful meeting with you all for conferences this week, I am proud of all the accomplishments our class has done and I look forward to the rest of our great year together!

Next week we will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week and each day we will be having a special event going on. There are THREE special “TAG” days next week, the schedule is as follows below.

1) Monday January 28th “Celebrate the Community Day”: TAG Day for students to wear BLUE as our theme. We are asking for a monetary donation for Mt. Arlington Police Officer Sergeant James DiStatsio, who was involved in a severe car accident on duty and is still in the hospital.

2) Tuesday January 29th “Celebrate Our Students Day”: TAG Day for students to wear their new CSW Shirt and jeans. They do not have to make a donation to dress down this day, however if they do not have a new CSW shirt they MUST wear their uniform this day. In the afternoon, the whole school will celebrate by having “Movie Day” and watching Toy Story 3 in the gym.

3) Wednesday January 30th “Celebrate Vocation Day”: Students wear their normal gym uniform. We are making class cards to honor the wonderful members of the Vocation at STS. We will also have an open house in the morning from 9:00-11:00 and Grades 3-5 will be presenting their special Wax Museum in the afternoon.

4) Thursday January 31st “Celebrate The Nation Day”: TAG DAY- Students are asked to wear Red, White and Blue (Patriotic Theme) to celebrate the USA. Students are asked to bring in a monetary donation that will go towards the Wounded Warrior Project. In the afternoon, we will have our annual Volleyball Game! Grades 7 & 8 will compete against Faculty & Parents. We are in need of some volunteers and would love it anyone is interested in coming and playing some volleyball! 5) Friday February 1st “Celebrate Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers”: Students wear their uniform, we will be attending special mass at 11:00 for appreciate and acknowledge all our wonderful volunteers. Teachers will have a teacher appreciation lunch from 12:00-1:00 pm and room moms are in need of volunteers to assist in watching the classes during this time.

Other Important Information!

- Our 100th Day is quickly approaching and today special directions went home in folders for our “100th Day Mystery Project”. Please do not send back in your special project until Friday Feb. 8th as we would like to present them that day during our celebration.

- Our 2019 STS Summer Camp interest form went home this weekend- no money is due at this time, we are just hoping to get an idea of how many students may join us this summer. : )

-SAVE THE DATE- Friday February 15th at 1:15 pm is our next big Kindergarten event- The Wedding of Q & U. A formal invitation and explanation will be going home on Monday. We hope a lot of families are able to join us for this special and memorable day.

Week of January 14th






Good Afternoon!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We are off to a wonderful start to another great week of Kindergarten.

Our new popcorn words went home today in our booklets, if your child did not bring their book today please send it to school tomorrow.

Please have your child practice reading the words at least a few times a week. I am also encouraging students to use our Raz Kids reading program at home as well, this will help strengthen the reading skills we work on daily at school. : )

We do have Library this week on Thursday. Please send back all library books by Thursday.

There is no school for students next Monday January 21st.

Our Kindergarten Conferences will be next Tuesday and Wednesday located in the small office in the church. I look forward to meeting with you all.

Here are our themes/concepts for this week:
1) Reading/Language Arts/ Phonics:
-Letters- Short Vowels in CVC words (focusing on short “a”)
-Sight Words- here, go
-Color Word- yellow
-Reading Comprehension- fiction vs. non-fiction, characters

2) Mathematics:
-Intro to Geometry- 2D & 3D Shapes

3) Religion-
-Jesus Grows Up in Nazareth
- Jesus’ Life
-Daily Prayers

4) Social Studies:
- Martin Luther King Jr.
-Equality, peace, love, harmony  

5) Science:
-Hibernation, Migration, Adaption- How Animals Survive in Winter Unit

Week of January 7th





Good Afternoon & Happy Monday,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. It is so crazy to believe we are already in our second half of our Kindergarten year together, time is truly flying!

Conference letters went home today in your child’s homework folder. Please review the time and date and fill out the bottom portion of the letter and return to school no later than this Friday January 11th. If you need to reschedule, we can work that out together as best as possible.

This week we are starting a very exciting Science unit on Hibernation, Migration, and Adaptation- What Animals Do in the Winter. We will be working on a special STEM challenge on Friday. A letter went home today asking if you happen to have any spare materials at home that you could possibly donate, we would greatly appreciate it. Items like paper towel rolls, tissue boxes (empty), cardboard (ex. Empty cereal boxes, etc.), egg cartons, empty milk cartons, plastic bottles, rocks, twigs, string, etc. Please do not go out and purchase materials, but if you happen to have anything laying around or in your recycling that you could send, we would be so thankful. Please send any materials by Friday. : )

Popcorn word books went home today with our three new words. If your child did not bring their book today, please send it in tomorrow so we can make sure they get the new words as well. Students should be practicing reading, writing, and spelling this words at home at least a few days a week. We do a lot of activities at school with them, but every few minutes of extra reinforcement at home can really make a huge difference!

This Friday is our next TAG Day and the theme is Pajama Day. Please be sure to send in the $1 donation for our 8th grade buddies.

Happy New Year! Week of January 2nd




Good Afternoon & Happy New Year!

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a fantastic winter break and enjoyed some time with your families. It was so nice to be back today, I missed the class so much! I know 2019 is going to be an amazing year for our class. : )

Our class has library tomorrow, so please send back any library books you may have at home so they may check out new ones tomorrow.

Reading Folders went home today with our new January materials. If you did not send in the December folder, please send them back this week so we can change out the materials and students receive their rewards. Also, please be advised that this is the last month for the Free Frosty Coupons as they expire on January 31st.

IMPORTANT DATES!
Kindergarten Conferences will be held on Tuesday January 22nd and Wednesday January 23rd . We will have our conferences in the office of the church. A letter with your scheduled conference date & time will go home this Friday. If the day & time you receive do not work for you, please let me know and I will do my best to reschedule as possible.

4) Tuesday January 22nd and Wednesday January 23rd Kindergarten Conferences.
