Week of January 17th

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. I apologize for my delay in our

weekly update, I was unfortunately out of school yesterday for a family

emergency tending to my son who was very sick. I am so glad to be back

today, as I missed our class very much!

Please see below for information about the week ahead:

1) Pizza money is due tomorrow. If you are interested in ordering pizza

please make sure it is sent in a LABELED envelope or baggie inside your

child’s homework folder. It has become quite difficult for Mrs. Nowel

in the past few weeks with unlabeled money when it falls out of their

folders before she sees who it is from. Thank you so much for your help

with this! :)

2) We are sending home our new weekly homework today, since it is a

short week & it is also a day late due to my absence, students may

have until next Monday to complete it.

3) I am VERY excited to announce that we also now have the IXL reading

& math program for Kindergarten! You will see a detailed letter in their

homework folder, along with a small green card taped on the front with

their login info so students can do this at home for extra practice. I showed

them today how to do this as well, and how after logging in they can click on

the yellow star “skills recommended by your teacher” that will take them to

the current topics & skills we are working on. This is optional but it is a

great way to practice that is fun for the children as well. :)

4) Priority Registration was sent home last week and is due back by Friday

if you are interested in coming back to STS next year and securing your

child’s spot now. :)

5) A reminder about the uniforms, please ensure your child wears all the

components of the uniforms each day, including sweatshirts/sweaters with

their name labeled on the tags. I know the weather is always changing but

we do keep the windows open for air circulation so it occasionally gets chilly

in the room so sweatshirts/sweaters are helpful. Thank you!

6) A letter will be coming home tomorrow about our upcoming 100th day of

school celebration & project. These projects are asked to not be sent in

until Monday, February 6th.

Here are our themes/concepts for the week:

1) Reading/Language Arts/Phonics:

  • Sight Words: blue, not, go, two, three

  • Reading Skill: Setting & Characters

  • Writer’s Workshop- Simple Sentences

  • Syllables & Blending Sounds- CVC Words

2) Mathematics:

  • Geometry Unit- 2D & 3D Shapes

3) Religion:

  • Jesus Grows Up in Nazareth

  • Jesus’ Miracles

4) Social Studies:

  • Martin Luther King Jr.- Teaching love, equality, peace and the importance of believing in our dreams!
