week in Kindergarten. We have lots of fun and excitement ahead of us! Here is some information for the week ahead:

pictures of all the festive fun!

Week of October 5th

Good Afternoon & Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather. I am so happy to begin another fantastic week with these amazing students. This week we have some exciting new additions beginning in Kindergarten.

Firstly, starting today we will begin sending home our Reading Folders every Monday, they are typically due back every Friday. However, since there is no school this Friday, you are not required to send them back in until next Tuesday when we return. Inside your child’s Reading Folder you will see a detailed letter explaining how we will be using these folders and which activities are due weekly and which are due monthly. This is a great way to reinforce some of the concepts we are working on at school together at home, as well as to further help them retain the important information and have fun practicing together.

Secondly, starting today we also are beginning our first unit of popcorn words (sight words- we call them popcorn because they “POP” out at us while reading). You will see a home practice list in your child’s homework folder today with our first 5 words. Please practice reading, writing, and spelling these words with your children throughout the week. Since this is a short week, and a new concept for our class, we will spend the next 2 weeks to review the first unit. As we get into a routine of learning our words, and we conclude our Bootcamp Program, we will then begin to do units of 5 words weekly, a bit later on in our year.

Here is some other important information for the week ahead:

1) A reminder there is no school this Friday 10/9 and also on Monday 10/12.

2) Now that we have begun the month of October, students should come to school wearing their normal uniforms on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Only on Wednesday and Thursday should they wear their gym uniforms.

3) Please be sure to check the Friday Folder on our STS website for any important paperwork or events coming up.

Here are the themes/concepts we are focusing on this week:

1) Reading/Language Arts/Phonics:

- Letters & Sounds (Bootcamp)- K-N (please send show & tell)

-Drawing & Labeling

-Reading Comprehension Skill- Characters

2) Mathematics:

-Number Sense 0-20

- Identifying, writing, and counting numbers 0-20

3) Religion:

-The Holy Trinity

-Praying the Rosary Daily

-Honoring St. Therese, St. Francis, and Mother Mary

-Daily Prayers

4)Social Studies:

- Citizenship Unit will conclude this week

5) Science:

- Fire Safety Month

Thank you so much for your time & attention. As always, should you have any questions please let me know.

Love & Prayers,
